If you think this is a bad name for a coffee, there is an Indian
coffee known as "MYSORE NUGGETS". "YAUCO" is actually pronounced: JOW-CO not
Yuk-co. This is the most famous of the Puerto Rico Island Coffees and it is
a VERY nice coffee.
This
Yauco is lovingly referred to as The Poorman's Jamaican Blue Mountain.
Yauco Selecto is a product of three farms - Haciendas San Pedro,
Caracolillo and Santa Ana, high in the Southwestern Mountains of the U.S. Commonwealth
of Puerto Rico. Elevations of 3,000 + feet above the Caribbean Sea give this
coffee its distinctive character. The clay based Alonso and Malaya Arcilloso
soils nurture the beans. Over one hundred inches of rain per year make the land
fertile ground for the lower yield/higher quality old style arabica trees. In
a world where quantity reigns, Yauco Selecto stakes a claim for quality over
volume.
Due
to the close ties to the United States, growing coffee in Puerto Rico is a high
cost operation. Just like Hawaii Kona, Puerto Rico's labor costs reflect U.S.
Government standards. Environmental policies in effect in Puerto Rico also increase
production costs. Yauco Selecto is proud to offer the top living conditions
available in the coffee industry.
Rich but subdued with a stealthy, understated sweetness. Some
aromatic intrigue suggests apples and spice. Somewhat restrained peanut buttery
aroma and an otherwise roundly expansive Caribbean cup. The end result is a
smooth, full bodied coffee with a creamy, almost buttery flavor, an arresting
aftertaste and a hint of chocolate undertones that really grab your attention!
Yauco
has had a growing following over the last 10 years or so. For those who crave
richness without the drama, Yauco Selecto offers you a fully balanced cup to
be enjoyed all day long. ... 'course it is kinda fun to say the name! No
coffee aficionado should have a bean cellar without a good Yauco for those special
moments.
Roast: City+ to Full City
is best to capture all the goodies in this cup.
